Madd Gear drift trikes for kids from 5. Pedal up, lean in, and let the back end go.

MADD GEAR DRIFT 2.0 TRIKE

Start here

What a drift trike actually is

Pedals on the front, slick wheels on the back, and nothing to stop the back end sliding.

You pedal the front wheel like a bike. The two rear wheels are hard plastic with no grip by design, so the moment you turn, the back swings out and you are drifting.

No engine, no battery, no throttle. Just legs, a hand brake on the front wheel, and a bit of nerve.

Smooth concrete is what you want, like a flat driveway. Rough seal will still work, it just chews the rear wheels much faster.

Which one fits?

Measure their leg, sitting down

A drift trike is sized on seated leg length, not height and not age.

They sit in a bucket seat and pedal with their legs out in front. So the question is not how tall they are, it is how far they can reach from the seat to the pedal.

  • How to measure. With them sitting in it, measure from the back of the seat to the pedal at its furthest point of rotation. On a chair, belt to the bottom of the foot gets you the same number.
  • Mini Drift. 71cm with the seat in the front position, 80cm in the back position.
  • Drift 2.0. 65 to 70cm in the front position, 84 to 89cm in the back position.

Both seats move. Each has two set positions, so there is room to grow. Age is a guide, leg length is the answer.

The most fun you can have on three wheels. The first trike in the range, for kids aged 5 and up.

Blow-moulded rear wheels, so sliding, drifting and full 360s come easily. The adjustable bucket seat locks in two positions to suit the rider. A sturdy rubber front tyre and a hand brake on the front wheel keep them in control while they work it out.

The perfect sliding machine. Built sturdy: a 20" freestyle wheel on the front, hi-tensile steel throughout, a three-piece steel crank and buttery slick rear wheels.

Leg length is the test, not height. The bucket seat has two positions far apart, so there is a lot of growing room between them.

Out of the box

A 30 to 40 minute build

They arrive boxed and need building. Allow 30 to 40 minutes. The tools and the manual are in the box.

There is a build video, and it covers both trikes: the Mini Drift and the Drift 2.0 go together the same way.

Questions we get asked

The things people ask before they buy

How do I know which size to get?

Measure from the back of the seat to the pedal at its furthest point of rotation, with them sitting in it. That is their seated leg length, and it is what decides the trike. Age is a guide, leg length is the answer.

What surface do they work on?

Smooth concrete, like a flat driveway. Rough seal works too, it just wears the rear wheels much faster, because those wheels are meant to slide rather than grip.

These are designed for use around private property. If you want to ride one somewhere else, check with your local authority first, as the rules vary by region.

Do the rear wheels wear out?

Yes, and that is normal rather than a fault. They are hard plastic with no tread by design, and drifting is exactly the thing that wears them.

We stock replacement rear wheels for both. The Mini Drift and the Drift 2.0 take different size rear wheels, so check which trike you have before ordering: drift trike parts.

Is there a brake?

Yes, and it is the same brake on both: a hand brake on the front wheel, of the kind called a V-brake. You squeeze it like a bike brake, and it is what lets them control the glide and the slide. There is nothing on the rear wheels, which is the whole point.

Does the seat adjust?

Yes, on both. Each has a bucket seat with two set positions. On the Drift 2.0 they are far apart, 65 to 70cm and 84 to 89cm of seated leg, so it grows with them.

How much building is there?

Allow 30 to 40 minutes. They arrive boxed, and the tools and the manual are in the box. There is a build video that covers both trikes, linked further up this page.

Do you sell parts for them?

Yes. Wheels, cranks, brakes, pedals, axles and more, all in one place: drift trike parts.

How long is the warranty?

Two years. Both trikes are Madd Gear, and you deal with us here in Auckland.
